Another Walk In the Park

This time it's different. This time we went to a park in Piscataway, near the Raritan river, called Johnson Park. This park means alot to me, mostly because I took a great picture of a Bald Eagle there, and they are very rare.

I also took a picture of a beautiful Cormorant, which has amazing eyes that look like jewels.

Once we arrived there, I got out of the car as fast as I could, maybe a little to fast, since the car was still moving. I tripped on my shoelace, but then I caught my balance again. I was mostly afraid that the camera would smash into pieces, thankfully it did not. I maintained the distance from all the people, keeping my mask on of course. I reached the place where I photographed the Bald Eagle and the Cormorant. Nothing!

Millions, and I really mean millions of flies were surrounding me, and I had to walk through them. For once in my life, wearing a mask actually made me happy.

A little disappointed, I headed back to the car. This day was becoming annoying, but I did not give up here. I looked back one more time, and there I saw it. Well, actually I had no clue what it was. It took me sometime to figure out the creature was a bird, but it looked like a Great Blue Heron. I snapped some photos, but its head was in the opposite direction, so it did not really appear in the picture.

I hopped in the car, and went to the other side of the park. When I got out, I saw a small cute squirrel, whose paws were held against her belly. I took a good picture, and tried to come next to it a bit. She let me get really close, but she ran away at some point. She thought I was giving her food, but believe me, if I would have had a nut, I would have definitely given her one.

Next to the squirrel was a bird fight. I knew something good was about to happen, so I took a closer look. I quickly got my camera ready, and snapped some photos. It's pretty cool how the black bird is standing on top of the other. I kept looking around the park, and saw absolutely nothing new.

Full of sadness, I headed back to the car. I looked up to the tree again, and saw it. A huge bird, like the one before, was perched high up in a tree. I quickly got there, dodging all the flies. I grabbed my camera, and took a lot of photos before it flew away.

On the way home, I reviewed both photos, and it turned out that the bird was indeed a Great Blue Heron. Just in case though, I reviewed the new bird with my old heron pictures, and the birds were completely different. I was excited to see a new bird, and did more research on it. To my surprise, it was a Grey Heron. Even though this is a new find, I hope to someday see a Snowy Egret.

  1. ...and that's how you also learn about birds and animals and all living creatures. Curiosity is the beginning of everything.
